Mission:  The mission of Immanuel Christian School is to prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.  Thus, students are taught the skill of discernment in the light of God’s Word, the practice of stewardship for creation, the required commitment to a life of Christian service, and the beauty of witness through modeling God’s love in a broken world.

From the Principal’s Desk:

I spent yesterday reading through the newly-released Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum 2015. For a document seeking “acceptance of differences” and “inclusivity”, there is a distinct lack of that in the Minister’s declaration that “there will be members of various religions who may object to one thing or another — that’s quite possible — but the curriculum is the curriculum that will be taught” (Toronto Star, 23 Feb 2015).  That assertion also seems to fly in the face of the curriculum document’s own statement that, “Parents are the primary educators of their children with respect to learning about values” (H&PE 2015, 13).
We have received enquiries from parents, concerned about their children’s public schooling, the health curriculum, and atheistic evolutionary explanations of origins. The Christian school’s answer to that challenge is not just to state “what we are not” or “what we do not teach”, but rather to rise to our mission to “prepare students to meet the challenge of the world and culture they live in as young and growing Christians.” I stressed that the starting point for schooling at ICS involves God. “He is in all things and in him all things hold together,” (Colossians 1: 17). The competition to Christian schools is not the public school system (or curriculum), but rather our surrounding culture, to which we are all exposed! As our health component of our Creation Studies curriculum declares, we “teach students how the Lordship of Christ results in healthy living…. Permeating these lessons and discussions is the acknowledgement that we are image bearers of God and that the Bible is our guidance for morality.”  That is the type of education parents voluntarily choose upon enrolment at ICS, and we are coveting your prayers, as we seek to support you in raising your children to know and love the Lord.
in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal

Battle of the Books: Students who have not finished reading all 10 books need to focus on that reading. In order to qualify for the team, a student must have read all 10 books by March 15!
Those who have finished their reading have received 2 envelopes with questions to practice. Reviewing the questions will help you remember details of the books you have already read.  Be sure to bring the envelopes back on practice day (Mondays for Senior and Thursdays for Junior), so you can trade them for new ones. We are also ready to assign “experts” for each book. An Expert will re-read the designated book and study the setting and characters so they come quickly to mind.
