NEW: Christian Schools Foundation (endowment): www.christianschoolfoundation.ca
From the Principal’s Desk:
This week in our class devotions and school chapel we are emphasizing our call to be Protectors. That’s the name of our “freedom from bullying” program. Bullying and other mistreatment, which can be so common in schools, is not just a school problem, it’s a fallen human problem. We seek to alleviate it here at ICS, and we do so as partners with you as parents. By turns, our children may be Targets, they may be Bystanders, and they may be Bullies. We want to encourage all to be confident Alongside Standers. Your support in this area is crucial, as we guide children in God’s ways, in his grace, forgiveness and courage. Let me share excerpts from a recent post by Paul Coughlin the founder of The Protectors:
“When it comes to combatting, Christian schools have an obvious advantage in curbing this prevalent behavioural problem… Christian schools are free to explain how God is watching and is ‘opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble’ (Proverbs 3:34). Studies show that most kids know bullying is wrong and feel sympathy and empathy for the target. What’s missing - and what is your school’s secret weapon against bullying that public schools do not have - is the bolstering of moral and spiritual courage among your student body. The word courage appears in the Bible about 25 times. When we have someone standing by our side, our capacity for spiritual and moral courage skyrockets. One study shows that even if one student stands up and using assertive but non-violent words, such as ‘Stop,’ ‘That’s wrong,’ that the incident of bullying can end 58% of the time and within 6-8 seconds. Your Christian school can be a beacon of hope that will do more than diminish bullying. It will provide courage, character and faith for life.”  (https://barrett-mosbacker.squarespace.com/home/stopbullying)
It is our prayer that, in this area as well across all our programs, as our mission states, “ICS assists parents in raising children to follow Christ with an excellent elementary program and a focus on Christian character growth.”
in Christian education, Keith Cameron, Principal and Chief Operating Officer

If you did not receive one, please contact the office. Please return the form to the school office by September 30. Thank you.

CameraWe Want You! The front entry on-screen ICS Family Picture Display helps us put names to faces, so please send a new picture (one from this summer) of your family to the office! Email or hard copy…

Transportation: To clarify our Lyons transfer point, if any bus is cancelled, we will always make sure another bus driver will take your child(ren) to Immanuel.

The Bus Transportation Communication List was sent home recently.  Keep it handy by the phone in case you need it. Remind will be our primary means to inform you about non emergency events (snow days, bus break down, delays). In case of emergency transportation interruptions (breakdowns en route or accidents) the bus driver or principal will phone the first person in each block. That person is then requested to phone the other people in their block promptly. If you get an answering machine, please leave a message, try again, and if no response, then call the school. If we cannot get in contact with you, your children will stay at or return to ICS.
... Bar of chocolate | by ...Chocolate Bars: Chocolate bar sales remain our main fundraiser for the Student Fund!

It’s also a way of talking about our school! Great job to those students who have

already sold their boxes or got their activity fees in! We still have some extra boxes

left - please let the office know by phone or email if we are to send another box home.

Our aim is to have all the chocolate sold by Sept 30th. First class to sell all of their

boxes or get all their student fees in gets a tasty treat!

logo-lions-onWhite.jpgSponsorship Opportunity!  We’re looking at renewing our competitive team sports jerseys. We have an offer of a business sponsorship for part of the costs. Are there other businesses who would partner in that and help with costs? Please let Mr Cameron know if interested by 23 Sept!

Cross Country. Selection for the competitive junior and senior teams is complete. All runners gr 2-4 may train and attend the 29 Sept meet. Permission forms (and chaperone volunteers) should be returned by Friday Sep 23, please!

Soccer. Selection for our co-ed team has been announced Friday. We will play an exhibition game against STCCS on Thu Sep 29 at 4pm at Steen Park. Practices are Tue, Fri at lunch and Thu after school.

[UPDATE] Woensdag nieuwe PC!ICS & STCCS Slowpitch baseball tournament: The St. Thomas tournament was cancelled due to weather, so we have decided to invite St Thomas to join us to have a larger tournament (we’d split proceeds)! It will take place on October 1st at the Malahide community complex (the diamonds in Springfield). Registration cost is $300/team and the team must have three girls on the field, must be 15 years or older, guaranteed three games. To register a team contact Janina Dykxhoorn at 519-709-6620 or at janina.dykxhoorn@gmail.com.

Care 2 Cycle - Save the Date of Saturday October 15 @ 8am! This is a local fundraiser supporting excellent Christian education through our Student Fund, including our ICS Compassion Child, field trips and our library. Last year we raised over $2200 for ICS, while partnering with Grace Community Church to raise $4200 for the Syrian refugee sponsorship. There's something for everyone - Rabbit Rodeo for ages 4-8, a 5km walk, 10, 20 and 50km cycling routes, and volunteer positions. We’d see our students asking family and friends for donations, not going door to door. Our target donors are those who already have a connection to ICS through past involvement, children or grandchildren. Please go to www.care2cycle.wikispaces.com to register online and let us know that you are coming!

From the ICS Library (n.robinson@immanuelchristianschool.net) - Since materials can be checked out for 2 weeks, tomorrow would be the first day that there might be overdues. Students are encouraged to put date due slips in their checkouts, so check the book pocket to see if it needs to come back yet. Renewals are allowed and encouraged if you still need more reading time. We have been working on using plastic bags for transporting books home. Please use one for transporting books back to school (yesterday, I heard a success story of library books being rescued from a waterbottle leak by a plastic bag. YEAH!).
