From the Principal’s Desk:
You will have noticed last week’s teacher Journal posts about their class’ “Send Out” project. Those projects are this year’s Integrated Studies (where we break down traditional educational boundaries or age or subject division), and they are also the extension of of theme: “Come follow me,,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out…” (Matthew 4:19). It has been a desire of our staff to emphasize our community connections. Interestingly, this last week, our community also came to us! Aylmer Town Councillor Ann Laur stopped in to chat about the Canada 150 celebrations, which centre on two themes: the planting of 10,000 Canada 150 tulips in public places in Aylmer, and a parade and fair on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. We can be a part of both. So, in a fitting connection with our Dutch heritage, a small crew from the Town, a few of our grade 5/6 students and a few volunteers will be planting tulips at ICS on the morning of our Grandparents Day! Want to help? Please let me know. Sometimes being “sent out” is just being receptive - isn’t it neat how God works?

Library News: (n.robinson@immanuelchristianschool.net) 1. Do you have your public library card number recorded in your planner to use in Library/Tech classes? 2. Battle of the Books is a reading program culminating in a competition with other schools of the Bluewater Christian School District next April. Students in Senior (Gr. 7&8) and Junior (Gr. 4-6) divisions are given a list of 10 books which they need to read and study. Until January the focus is on reading the books and preparing some questions for them. Then we use those questions in weekly practices to improve teamwork and book knowledge. Anyone who is a fairly strong reader and enjoys reading a variety of books is welcome to try out for the team. Book title release date is next week! Contact Mrs. Robinson for more information or if you are willing to help with a team or by reading a book and preparing questions for practices.

High School Options. As a community centred around Christian education, we want to help all students and parents become familiar with LDCSS, and we want both parents and students to ask hard questions: What do I want from my high school? How is God honoured in my school? How do you pay for two tuitions at once? Is it really worth it? As part answer to those questions, there are two upcoming events:
  • We are treating the LDCSS Grade 8 day as a class field trip. Parents are also invited to participate.
  • Take advantage of the Dessert Evening Open House on Thursday, November 17 from 19:00-20:30 to find out more!
